Robin Eggs - Bad News

Bad News:   🙁

In an earlier post, I told you how I have some robin eggs outside of my house.  Well, something disappointing happened.  One day, we saw that there was one egg missing, the next, another one went missing, luckily, the third one didn't disappear the next day.  We looked all over our backyard, because if it dropped, that's where it would have landed, but it was no where to be found.  Anyway, a few days  later, the mama bird just seemed to have abandoned her nest and there was still one egg still in the nest.  About 5 days later, there was a small hole in the egg, but it seemed to be hollow, in about the next two days, the whole egg was gone, accept for one piece of the shell.  Our best guess is that the mama bird dumped the first two eggs out of her nest, because they were already dead and were never going to hatch, and then an animal like a squirrel, for example ate the two eggs on the ground.  For the last egg, something probably came up to the nest and ate it.

We are sad that there are no robin eggs left to hatch but hope that we get more robins that lay eggs in the same spot next year.
